On-Farm Technical assistance spans several of our program and service areas. We conduct site visits and workshops, and produce publications on a variety of topics including fertilizer, pests, irrigation and business management, in English and Spanish.

Funding may be available to landowners interested in technical assistance.

2014 A Guide to Steep Land Orchard Development

Completed in 1984 by CRCD and SCS and updated in 2014. This guide was prepared in response to the rapid development of the avocado industry along the south coast of Santa Barbara County.

On-Farm Water Quality Analysis

We conduct analysis to help growers with nutrient budgeting. Test kits and training are available for growers conducting testing for fertigation scheduling.

Irrigation Evaluations

The CRCD’s Mobile Irrigation Lab (MIL) helps farmers and managers of schools and parks save water, energy and money. We provide onsite irrigation system analysis and technical assistance to improve water use efficiency. This service is FREE to agricultural growers and available for a small fee to turf managers.

Stream Water Testing

Ranchers and landowners who wish to have their own confidential water quality data can utilize the Cachuma Resource Conservation District’s Ranch Water Quality Services for sample design and collection.

Nitrate Quick Test

The CRCD and NRCS produced several videos to instruct growers on the use of the soil nitrate quick test (SNQT). This test is designed to provide rapid results on the amount of residual nitrate present in the soil and available for immediate crop needs.
